10-15-04 -- Bagby & Russell Electric Steps Up Commitment to Foundation
Babgy & Russell Electric Company, Inc, Mobile, Alabama has upgraded its commitment to the Electrical Contracting Foundation to the $100,000 Founder Level. Initially, the company had committed $5,000 to ECF in honor of Robert L. Russell, father of current CEO and owner, Frank Russell."The Foundation is doing tremendous good for the electrical industry and we want to take a bigger role in its success," says Frank Russell. "We believe that the Foundation is the future of the industry. Its work is important to our company’s goal of quality installations and service and to maintaining a reputation of integrity and dependability.”
The company was founded in 1920 by Arthur Babgy in Birmingham, Alabama under the name Bagby Elevator and Electric and had ten offices in the Southeast. Frank went to work for the Atlanta branch straight out of high school while studying for his degree in electronics. In 1986, he bought out the Mobile branch and named it Bagby & Russell Electric. Today, the company has branches in Mobile and Orange Beach Alabama and its services include industrial, commercial and residential electric installations as well as integrated systems such as VDV, CAT, and security systems.
Frank attended his first ELECTRI´21 COUNCIL meeting this year in July and was impressed with the high quality of research that was presented. He is enthusiastic to be part of the initiative to keep the Foundation on the leading edge of research for the industry. One area that he believes is of great significance is enterprise integration and open specifications between the technological systems specific to the entire construction industry - from engineering to procurement; from installation to maintenance. “This approach”, Frank noted, “would reduce the specialty contractor´s cost of technology implementation and improve the communication between all the contractors involved in the project and the owner.”
"Enterprise integration is going to happen whether we like it or not. SMACNA and other associations are starting to look in that direction and if we in the electrical industry do not step up our efforts, then we will find ourselves to be far behind the rest of the construction industry."
