08-29-05 -- Important Update for NECA 2005 New Orleans
Since Hurricane Katrina landed on the Gulf Coast, many people are wondering if NECA will go ahead with its planned New Orleans meetings, Sept. 16-20. NECA is hosting the Board of Governors meeting, the NECA Convention and Trade Show, the Conference on Integrated Building Systems, and the Conference on Lighting Education, at the New Orleans Convention Center and hotels throughout the French Quarter.At this point, we don’t have enough information to make any determination about the meetings. Rest assured that we are closely monitoring the status of our facilities, hotel accommodations, and the New Orleans infrastructure necessary for travelers. A number of factors, not least among them the safety and comfort of our attendees, will affect our decision to change or continue with the plans currently in place.
We hope to advise all attendees, exhibitors, and chapter staff of our decisions within 48-72 hours. We are in contact with sources in New Orleans and across the country that will help us make choices in the best interest of the members and the association.
